U. of Texas Psychologist Was Intended Target of Student Shooter

A University of Texas at Arlington student who made inappropriate advances toward Adria Villarreal, a university psychologist, fatally shot Ms. Villarreal’s husband last month before shooting himself. The student, 22-year-old Antonio Garcia, had met with Ms. Villarreal for nearly two years before the shooting took place, according the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Last week the newspaper reported that on the day of his last session with Ms. Villarreal, Mr. Garcia indicated that he was interested in a more personal or romantic relationship, and Ms. Villarreal then referred him to mental-health services. The police believe that Mr. Garcia intended to shoot Ms. Villarreal, but instead shot her husband, Steven McIntosh, who was driving her car that day. Mr. Garcia had indicated to friends that he was suicidal.
